Hello, I’m Milena.
I am a professional educator, researcher, and writer. For more than 15 years I have worked in many areas of finance and education, ranging from working on a team of investment portfolio managers for high net worth clientele at Merrill Lynch earning Barron’s Magazine‘s “Top 100 Brokers in America” designation, working as an associate professor and researcher in finance and economics at Walsh College of Business and Accountancy, to freelance copywriting and editing as a subject matter expert for a variety of education publishers including McGraw-Hill Education.
Please see my resume for more details about my professional experience.
What can I do for you?
I work with publishers, businesses, and brands as a finance SME to ensure their written content and messaging as it relates to finance is accurate and professional.
As a professor I teach and develop original course materials at the undergraduate and graduate levels. I also tutor and mentor students at universities and colleges around the world to success in their finance courses, having earned over 230 5-star reviews as a tutor on Wyzant.com.
I also work with micro-to-small business owners to develop budgets, improve their working capital management, help fine-tune their financing structure, develop business plans based in solid financial projections, help them understand the needs of their market, as well as identify their business and financial risks and how to help mitigate them.
Why work with me?
I am great at working remotely, meeting deadlines, and I am never bored at any job I have ever done. I am a compulsive autodidact who can find nearly every subject fascinating to delve into. Check out my Ongoing Development section to see the new subjects I am studying, tools I’m using, and books I’m reading to upgrade and integrate my skills right now. (Maybe you’d enjoy learning about these things too!)
What else might you want to know about me?
I am a professional singer and voice teacher, mom of three young kids, and also hold a Montessori teaching diploma. I am passionate about early childhood education and believe that teachers and parents are scientists who should study and learn as much as they can about how to educate young minds as much as they are caregivers.
I am a half-first generation American (my mom was born in the US, my father was born in the former Yugoslavia) with a great love for exploring new cultures and languages. I am currently living in China for the second time in 3 years and have used the challenge and opportunity of moving 9 times in 5 years as a way to learn how to develop excellent relationships globally while working as a remote freelancer. And eating all the food.
I have also been touched closely by Type 1 Diabetes in my family and I work tirelessly to learn everything I can about the disease, especially related to open source technologies such as #DIYAPS as well as learning more about the products, operations, and finances of companies on the cutting edge of improving the lives of people with Type 1 Diabetes everywhere. I believe strongly in the potential of Beta Bionics, Bigfoot Biomedical, and Tandem Diabetes corporations (I am a current shareholder in TNDM) as having promising products as well as being values-based organizations that truly have the needs of families living with Type 1 Diabetes in their corporate mission.
